SMOOTH COLLIE CLUB SCRAPBOOK

The committee of the Smooth Collie Club of GB has decided to round off this Club Jubilee Year by producing a scrapbook containing a collection of photographs taken at all the events run throughout the year. Jane Howells, Club Archivist, is collecting and assembling the photos and Lynn has kindly agreed to write the captions. This would not only give us a visual record of the events but would become part of the Smooth Collie Club archives for members to look back on in future years.

There must be many people who have taken shots of the various events for themselves, showing the dogs, members, backgroundsetc., and if any of them would like to share these photos with the club, perhaps you could send them for possible inclusion in the book. There should be a label on the back of each photo giving the name of the dog, handler, etc., plus the date taken and the name of the event. The club would be prepared to reimburse a reasonable cost of having photographs copied.

It is planned to have the album ready by the Smooth Collie of the Year (SCOTY) 2006 so dig out those photos and should you need any further information please contact Jane Howells on 01536 711232

Both Rough and Smooth Collies started life as working sheepdogs, but it was not long before the glamorous Rough Collie took the show scene by storm. Queen Victoria, a great dog lover, owned Rough Collies and soon American breeders were paying astonomical prices for English-bred dogs. All it needed was the Lassie films to cement the Rough Collie as the number one favourite companion and show dog.

The Smooth Collie, for so long considered the poor relation of the Rough, has has a less spectacular history but its outstanding temperament and refined, elegant good looks have attracted many enthusiasts.

For the first time, The Rough and Smooth Collie have been given equal status in this superbly illustrated book of the breed. The author covers both breeds in all aspects, including choosing a puppy, training and grooming. The working ability of both breeds is examined, together with comprehensive information on health care and breed specific ailments.

The show Collie is highlighted with info on the different show colours, preparing a dog etc. There is also a fully illustrated, in depth analysis of the Breed Standards.

For the more experienced owner, there is a section on breeding, mating, whelping and rearing a litter,

Lavishly illustrated with more than 200 photographs and line drawings.
Essential reading for enthusiasts.
