Like
many keen exhibitors and breeders I started off with a pet collie,
Angus, who was not a show dog but started my keen interest in this
beautiful breed. As the children got older they often asked for a
dog and finally in 2003 we purchased Poppy (Karibuni Black Pearl
at Uffspring) both as a family pet and a show dog. A few months
later Maisie arrived (Carristina Yuletide Glitta from Uffspring)
and these two became our first show dogs.

Maisie
did particularly well for me in 2004/5, being placed at virtually
all open and championship shows attended and qualifying for Crufts
where she won a 2nd place – at my first ever Crufts! Maisie
has the most beautiful head and expression and both dogs have very
good movement and excellent temperaments – my highest priority.
The girl’s wonderful, easy-going natures have inspired me to
breed and, having just completed building our kennels, this is exactly
what we are now doing.

first litter by Ch Tour de France des Marecages du Prince to Samhaven
(imp) and we retained Yvie to show [Carristina Bonne Fille avec Uffspring]
. She has followed in her mother's footsteps winning 8 x BP at Open
Shpws, 1 x Pastoral Puppy Group 1, other puppy group placings and
has qualified for Crufts on several occasions before herself settling
down to rear a litter of very promising puppies by Ch Samhaven Toastmarster.
As can be seen her temperament is second to none, especially with
the children.

Maisie
has now had another beautiful litter by Samhaven Made in Devon, from
which we have kept a very promising dog, Uffspring Unforgettable who
we are hoping to get into the show ring by the end of the year [2007].
Gracie
[Carristina Femme Fatale del Uffspring JW] gained her Junior Warrant
at just under 14 months of age. She has done a huge amount of winning
for us including; 1st Junior Leeds Ch Show and 1st Junior, 1st Yearling
and 1st Graduate at Collie Association Ch Show amongst many other
firsts at Ch Shows and Open Shows, and Best Puppy and BOB at Open
Shows, as well as several group and puppy group placings. Most of
all she is an all round star, always happy and loves the show ring
- shame she shows it by fidgeting so much!! Yvie [Carristina Bonne
Fille avec Uffspring] also gained her stud book number at Richmond
Ch Show and she too had a good year gaining many firsts at both Ch
and Open shows, along with BOB's and Group placings before she was
mated to Carriswillow Riot at Samhaven [1CC & 2RCC's], puppies
hopefully to follow...watch this space.
Poppy,
Maisie and Yvie are all trained for agility, which they love, and
we are hoping to compete in agility competitions before too long,
as well as the breed shows - when we can find the time!! They are
also all bronze or silver KC Good Citizens and are registered at PAT
dogs. This just shows how verstile collies can be.
Although
I have only had collies for a relatively short time and still have
huge amounts to learn I am very grateful for all the helpful advice
I have received from numerous collie owners and breeders, particularly
Pat Hutchinson [Karibuni], Christina Evans [Carristina] and Ella Scott
[Sherel].
My
priorities for breeding are temperament, health and soundness; beauty
is important but comes second only to these. With this in mind Uffspring
collies are hip and eye tested and puppies from the kennel will be
eye tested at 7 weeks. All litters are extensively planned and the
stud dog chosen with great care, aiming for excellent show dogs and
superb family pets. Our dogs are beloved family pets and puppies will
be well socialized and brought up in the house with young children
and vacuum cleaners etc!
