I have always liked the breed and in 1978 was lucky enough to have my first Rough Collie, a tricolour dog, known as Snoopy, who was unregistered. But as I was not looking for a show dog that wasn't a problem. He turned out to be my very best friend, he went everywhere with me and I'll never have another like him.

In 1984 I bought my second Rough, a sable and white dog known as Duke Golden Delight at Markenfield [Zeb]. He was to be a companion for Snoopy. In 1991 I went to a local exemption show and entered Zeb in a few classes and to my delight he won and from that day on I had caught the showing bug. I showed Zeb at a few local Open Shows and he did very well, but as he was nearly 7 years old I decided to look for something a little younger to show. I was lucky enough to buy a tricolour bitch known as Trisever Blue at Markenfield[Mitzy]. She did well for me in the ring but sadly she was not a lover of the showing game.

In 1993 I mated Mitzy to Zeb and had one puppy, who I kept. He was Markenfield's Gold Sunrise. He won many Best Puppy and BOB's at Open shows and he did qualify for Crufts but once he turned 3 years old he decided that he would rather stay at home. Also in 1993 I bought a sable bitch, Steldave's Touch of Elegance at Markenfield [Abby]. Little did I know the that she was going to be the foundation of my present day kennel. She really loved showing and won no end of BOB's at Open shows and obtained her Stud Book Number at Champ. Show level.

In 1994 I decided to have a litter from Abby and I mated her to Mirlyndon Moonraker. She produced 5 puppies. From the litter I kept a tricolour bitch, Markenfield's Tri Dawn, Cleo. Like her mom Cleo took to the show ring like a duck to water. She won Best Puppy nearly every time out and as an adult won BOB at nearly every show. She also won 2 Reserve CC's, but the day I'll never forget was when she won the Bitch CC & BOB at Leeds Championship Show, under judge Peter Scarth.

In 1995 I decided to mate Abby again and this time took her to Int Ch Sogno Del Narciso with Pelido and in the November she produced 6 puppies. all sables. From the litter i kept 2 puppies a dog and bitch, known as Markenfield's Asti Spumanti [Blake] and Markenfield's Maid of Rome [Sophie]. They both did well in the ring. Both qualified for Crufts by the time they were 8 months old, but as time went on I decided to let Sophie go and just keep Blake. Little did I know what was to come.

Blake qualified for Crufts every year he was out, but it was in 1999 that the big shock came. When I took him to the West of England Collie Champ show under breed judge Hazel Hunt [Rifflesea] to my delight he won the Open Dog class, and that's when it hit me. He was in for the challenge to win the CC and to my shock Hazel awarded him the CC, along with Best of Breed and to top of the day he went on to beat the Smooth Collie for Best in Show. He gained his second CC at Collie Association and his 3rd at Southern Counties. Blake is not 11 years old and Cleo is not 12 years old. Both are still going strong and enjoying time at home.Well that's the story so far. I have added photos below of my dogs, from past, present and future.....

I start this update with some sad news and it's with great sadness, that this month [July 2007] I had to say goodbye to Markenfield's Tri Dawn.

Cleo became very ill over night and even though I rushed her to my vet, things were a lot worse than I had thought. It turned out that she had an open pyometra, my vet told me that she could operate, but due to Cleo being 13 years old, there was a great risk of her not coming round after the operation. So with a heavy heart it was agreed to call it a day, as the last thing I wanted was for her to suffer in any way.

She has now been laid to rest in the garden alongside her mum, Steldave's Touch of Elegance at Markenfield. They were always kennelled together, so they are now together once more.

Her spirit lives on through her grandson, Markenfield's Knightbird.

08/11/1995-16/11/2007

It’s with great sadness that I do this advert, but I felt I needed to do something in honour of my very good friend & 1st champion, Markenfield’s Asti Spumante, Blake to his friends.
He became very Ill over period of time and lost all interest in things and further talks with my vet that awful decision had to be made.

He live's on through his son Rifflesea Right to Roam over Markenfield, he is also Grand- Dad to Markenfield Galliano, Markenfield's Dream Wizard & Markenfield's Knightbird.

He won his CC’s at the following shows:

WECS: CC, BOB, BIS. Judge dogs: Hazel Hunt.
CA: CC, BOB, BIS. Judge dogs: Cliff Emery.
Southern Counties: CC. Judge:Mr M Gaunt.
SWKA: Res CC. Judge: Mrs B Blake
Crufts: Res CC. Judge: Hazel Hunt.
He was also BIS at Wecs Open show 2 yrs later, Judge Miss H Corfield.

I would just like to thank all the above judges who thought so highly of my boy and also to those who put their faith in him as stud.

Also for this update I have added a photo of the latest addition to my kennel, a young man called

Markenfield's Dream Wizard.

Born on the 9th Jan 2007, he is sired by Clairone Lonely Dreamer with Pelido ex Markenfield's Babycham [Spumante daughter]

He is yet to hit the show ring, but I think he has what it takes to do well when he does
He will be offered at stud when he is of age.

This young man, known as

Markenfield's Night Visage,

is the latest addition to our kennel, he has tested Clear for Cea/Pra, we very much look forward to showing him in 2008.

He is sired by Markenfield's Knightbird, his Dam is a daughter of Markenfield's Fantasy on Ice, she is also a Grand-Daughter of Ch Penpriory Playboy of Karava.

I thought it was time that I updated my page again, below you will find the latest editions to the

Markenfield Kennel.

We start with a young lady who is known as

Markenfield's Chardonnay
Born January 2008

Sire: Markenfield Galliano
ex Markenfield's Cat Balou.

She is yet to hit the show ring but I hope for the best when she does.

The next two additions have both come a long way to join my kennel. They have travelled from Hungary and I'm sure both girls will make their presence felt in their new home and in the show ring.

The first picture is of

Chris N' Joe Believe in Angels at Markenfield

Sired by Reeberrich Radiant Blue ex Ch Old Golden Gate Magnifica

Maddie joined us in March 2008 and has really made herself at home.

This second picture is of

Prince of Sunlight Who's That Girl at Markenfield

sired by FCh Vic Bihl of Colomber Field [son of Ch JonnyBeGood at Brilyn]
ex HCh Lady Mila Vom Bruggenerland.

Fergie joined us in July 2008 and like her tricolour friend she has really made herself at home.
